It looks like I will be able to attend most of OSRCon II this August after all (I previously thought that I would have to miss it this year).
Now to decide whether to run a game! If so, it would be during the final Saturday afternoon session.
I'm tempted to run the MERP adventure 'Star Spray' (from an old issue of White Dwarf). It's a pretty epic adventure, and probably could be completed in 3-4 hours, but I doubt that there would be much interest in a MERP game, even at an 'old school' convention.
I could run a Crypts and Things game. It would be fun, I think, to expose others to the game. And the rules certainly would be easy for most OSR gamers to grasp.
Another option, of course, is Call of Cthulhu. It's been a year since I last ran a CoC game, and I'm itching to do so again soon. Any suggestions for a fun CoC single-session adventure?
What about converting Star Spray to Crypts and Things? I've been thinking about converting an old Star Ace module to Stars Without Number, since I think it would be easier to get people to the table for SWN.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the suggestion, Ryan!
ReplyDeleteThe adventure is very much set in Middle-earth -- indeed, it would lose its 'impact' if it were set elsewhere. C&T, however, is designed for 'swords and sorcery' settings (Robert E. Howard, Clark Ashton Smith, Fritz Leiber, et al.).
But perhaps this is not a big deal. I'll definitely consider it.
Whatever you decide to run, I'm so glad you'll make it!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Hopefully we'll cross paths there.
Delete"Grace Under Pressure" from Pagan Publishing: a fabulous convention scenario :D
ReplyDeleteAllan.
Thanks for the suggestion, Allan. I'll try to get that adventure, even if I don't end up running CoC at this year's OSRCon.
DeleteC&T for the WIN!!
ReplyDeleteIf it helps sway you we've got a ready made C&T module written by Rik Kershaw-Moore (author of The Company and ex-Kult of Keepers, which was a renown UK CoC demo team).
Any chance you could send me that adventure, Newt? I'm leaning toward C&T...

THE WIN! :D
DeleteLater today, just need to check a few things with the author ;)
I shall be there, pimping RQ6 and taking part in the panel discussion with the legendary Ken St.Andre.
ReplyDeleteFor those who are going to be at OSRcon, my RQ scenario is detailed below. Blain, it should appeal to you...
'Meeros Falling'
Up to 6 players using pre-generated characters
The city-state of Meeros has suffered a devastating earthquake, possibly of divine nature. The city is a shambles; chaos looms. Against this backdrop the characters must investigate why one of the city's heroes was betrayed shortly before the earthquake struck. Why was she slandered? Who was behind the treachery? Who else was involved? What does this mean for Meeros?
This is a mixture of investigation and danger with the characters serving an influential priestess of Meeros's patron deity. They will need to plough the furrows of senate politics and dive into the city's murkier areas in a bid to uncover the Truth...
'Meeros Falling' uses the new RuneQuest 6th edition rules. All necessary information will be provided.
Sounds great, Lawrence! I'm enrolled in one of your RQ games. :D
DeleteWhere you the one that ran CoC last year by any chance?
ReplyDeleteNot me, Canageek. I wasn't able to go to OSRCon last year.
