Saga's Sword

This sounds like the beginning of a fantasy epic: a young girl named 'Saga' finds an ancient sword in a lake...

But it actually happened: "An eight-year-old [Saga Vanecek] found an ancient pre-Viking-era [~500 AD] sword while swimming in a lake in Sweden during the summer."

UPDATE (2018-10-22): Saga describes her experience.

Are you in a Viking Saga?

"How to tell if you're in a Viking Saga."

I especially liked: "Greenland is horrible, but you have persuaded people to move there with false advertising."

Just in Time for Ragnarök!

Iceland is building a temple to the Norse gods:
Icelanders will soon be able to publicly worship at a shrine to Thor, Odin and Frigg with construction starting this month on the island’s first major temple to the Norse gods since the Viking age.

Praise Odin!

Pictures of Iceland

My friend Peeter (who plays 'Adralat Na-Keth' in our RuneQuest Young Kingdoms campaign) recently was in Iceland. Here are some of the pictures that he took while there. I think that these could be useful as 'visual aids' in a fantasy role-playing game campaign, especially one set in a 'Nordic' environment (say, one involving Vikings).
